Communication Changes is an independent speech and language therapy service established by Mary Ganpatsingh in 2009. Communication Changes provides speech and language therapy, bespoke carer training and supervision.
Communication Changes has always placed a high value on protecting any personal data that is shared when working with clients and supervisees. In the light of changes to the law (The General Data Protection Regulations (EU) (GDPR)) this Privacy Policy has been written to explain how Mary Ganpatsingh of Communication Changes will use and protect your personal and health information in the course of delivering either speech therapy or supervision.
As Mary Ganpatsingh is a sole trader she is both the data controller and data processor at Communication Changes. She is registered with ICO.
What personal information does Communication Changes collect?
Communication Changes will assume that you give consent for the following personal data (your name, address, email and telephone address) to be held when you make an initial enquiry. This data will be used by Communication Changes to follow up your enquiry. If therapy does not follow on from this enquiry then your personal data will be destroyed.
Communication Changes will only collect data that relates specifically to your assessment and treatment. You will be asked to identify which data Communication Changes can collect during your initial interview and you will be able to state consent and withdraw consent for Communication Changes to hold some or all of your personal data throughout your therapy.
In order to deliver high quality speech and language therapy, Communication Changes will collect some/all of the following personal data:
What is the lawful basis for holding my personal data?
Communication Changes will process and store your personal information based on the lawful basis of ‘legitimate interest’ because Communication Changes cannot deliver a high quality service without the personal data listed above. In addition, collecting the personal data (listed) will be of benefit to you as you seek recovery of communication or swallowing skills.
Under GDPR, health information is a ‘Special Category Data’ and can be collected and stored by health professionals who are ‘legally bound to professional secrecy’. Mary Ganpatsingh is a Speech and language therapists, registered with both RCSLT and HCPC and is therefore legally bound to keep client information confidential.
What are your security and data storage arrangements?
Any personal information that you choose to share via the website contact page or by leaving an answerphone message is done so at your own risk.
Communication Changes can send and receive emails through the egress switch system. Communication Changes might also send personal data by attaching a password controlled document by email. Communication Changes will do what they can to maintain secure processes of data transfer but as some of these rely on third parties, complete security cannot be guaranteed.
Written reports will be sent via ‘signed for’ postage with costs charged to you, the client.

As all your data is confidential Communication Changes will not share it without your expressed consent. Circumstances in which information might be share include referral to other professionals.
There may be some limited reasons in which I am obliged to share your personal data for legal reasons.
Communication Changes will not use your personal data for marketing purposes with the exception of testimonial quotes given, with your consent, at the end of therapy.
How can I access my personal information?
You may request access to your personal information at anytime by contacting [email protected] and this will be shared with you except in the limited circumstances in which Communication Changes is not permitted to do so.
If you discover that there are inaccuracies regarding your data, you may request that Communication Changes make appropriate amendments in writing to [email protected]. This will be actioned within one working week.
How do I make a complaint about the way Communication Changes has handled my personal information?

- digital documents created after 25th May 2018 will be password protected
- files and paper documents will be stored in a locked filing cabinet
- wherever possible documents will only contain a personal code rather than personal identifiers such as name or date of birth, exceptions might include the initial assessment and referral letters
- files will be archived for 7 years following the final therapy session before being destroyed
- personal data relating to supervisees will be destroyed as soon as the contract is ended
